Essay Topic For HistoryResearching and selecting a topic for your history essay can be one of the most difficult parts of writing a thesis. The great thing is that you are not alone. It's going to take a lot of effort, time, and a lot of practice in order to determine a topic that will stand out among the masses. I'm going to give you some tips to help you determine a topic for your essay.
A. Relevance is an important consideration. You may feel that you have a strong topic for your essay, but if it doesn't relate to a historical event, there is a very good chance that you won't get any grade points off of it. This isn't a bad thing, because a reference to Lincoln or Reagan isn't going to do much for you if you don't also discuss the events leading up to them. Do not write about the segregation of the races, or the lack of civil rights for African Americans. Those events have been covered hundreds of times in the past.
C. How well do you know the topic? Every student who has taken an introductory level class knows that they have a certain amount of knowledge about the subject, even if it is only a part of the overall subject. It is very important that your topic is interesting enough that you are able to draw out information from other students who are just now learning the topics.
D. What is the topic for? Many times the purpose of writing an essay on history is to read others' research and see how it fits into their own research. If they are not able to answer the question, you may want to consider writing another essay on the same topic.
E. A. You should not write about a topic just because it is current. It's okay to change the perspective of the topic, but don't rewrite history just to change the viewpoint.
F. E. Writes about the major issues. It is absolutely imperative that you take an opinion, or even a particular viewpoint, and express it with strength. Don't try to hide behind an air of irony or sarcasm, because if you aren't able to tell the truth, the reader won't be able to.
G. H. Include all the facts. The majority of the work involved in writing an essay on history is researching, fact-checking, and correcting your own work.
I hope you learned something from this article, or maybe a high school history professor. Don't assume that you're up to speed on topics before you find yourself needing to write an essay on the topic!
